No European online sports betting operator offers its customers only sports betting services – they like to complete their offer with many other things, like online casinos, poker rooms and such. Some have more such “side games”, others have less – 10bet, for example, has only casino and games, while Betfred, the topic of this review, has much more: everything from in-play bets to online bingo and lottery.

History

Betfred got its name from one of its founders – Fred and Peter Done, guess which one – who have opened their first betting shop back in 1967, in their hometown – Salford. They had at least some success in their endeavor, because their first shop was followed by a second only two years later. From here on, the success of Betfred was uninterrupted.

By 1997, Betfred’s network of retail gambling outlets has grown to 100, and by the turn of the century this number has doubled. Now they have over 800 betting shops, they are the owners of the Tote (formerly the Horserace Totalisator Board, previously owned by the British government), they are the biggest sponsor of horse racing and they sponsor the Cheltenham Gold Cup until 2025.

Betfred, Betfred’s online arm has been launched in 2025. Since then it has extended into an operation with 150 employees, offering web and mobile sports betting, casino and soft games, lotteries and bingo to its customers from all around the world.

Sports betting

Although it offers its customers a great variety of betting options, Betfred’s core business is still the sports betting one. Through its website it covers the most popular markets, as well as several special ones – players can place their bets on football matches and horse races, boxing and baseball, lotteries and motor sports, but it also covers the usual specials – TV shows, politics, the British royal family and others.

Players can place their bets pre-game and in-game, as well, and it offers its players up to date information about their favorite sports – football, horse racing and tennis, through their dedicated sports centers. The only thing I miss is the live streaming of events – some of Betfred’s competitors have this one, too.

Totepool

A special section, only available at Betfred. Totepool, according to the Betfred website, is much like a lottery: all stakes go into one pool of winnings, and after the races are concluded, it’s shared equally among the winners. This means that the winnings generated by a successful bet are variable depending on how many players are participating and how many of them are winners. When using Totepool, players are not betting against a bookmaker, and there are no odds involved whatsoever. According to the Betfred website, Totepool bets have 9% better returns than fixed odds bets.

Lotteries

In the “Lotto” section players can place their bets on a series of national lotteries like the UK, Irish or Spanish national lottery, Euromillions, and many others. This section is available for desktop play, even with a dedicated Windows 8 app (and this one also has a promotion tied to it –  and various mobile devices.

Games

From sports betting to instant games in just one click to the right. Betfred’s “Games” section offers its visitors a great variety of instant games – slots, table games, pub games and scratch cards, powered by Playtech’s Ash Gaming arm.
